♦ The Undisputed Truth - You + Me / Let’s Go Down To The Disco
(Double sided electronic disco monsters that broke the mold.)
♦ Nytro - Nytro Express
(Mr Whitfield’s train obsession goes off the rails.)
♦ Rose Royce - Wishing On A Star
(The perfect baby making ballad with a dash of lysergic soul from Whitfield.)
♦ The Temptations - Psychedelic Shack
(Come in and take a look at your mind!)
To be honest Darkstarr could of picked so many Whitfield classics and you know something, that’s the problem……..He is the man!
Udio’s Whitfield High 5
♦ The Temps – “Smiling Faces Sometimes”
in all its teasing, harmonious tantric glory
♦ Rose Royce – “RR Express”,
the European cut comes complete with a dubbed out guitar part that emerges from the disco train ride of the song proper.
♦ The Temps (again) –“ You’ve Got my Soul on Fire”,
storming drums burst from great vocal build ups…more of a ghetto vibe than the psychedelic soul of the rest of the album.
♦ Undisputed Truth – “You + Me = Love”
an exercise in dance floor science. Driving, lyrical, tightly arranged but live and dynamic.
♦ Rare Earth – “I’m Losing You”
It is entirely about the live 20-something minute version of this song which makes me want to slip off my flesh and wave it overhead in carnal delight of the joys of hippies, bongos and psychedelic rock.
What a testament just these 5 tracks are to a talent which exercised itself in equal measures within underground music and the popular spectrum. – James Morrison, Udio
